Kathryn Bader, Social Media Director, UC Berkeley
Kathryn Bader is honored to tell the Berkeley story every day as the director of social media for Communications and Public Affairs. She has worn a number of hats since arriving on the Berkeley campus over 12 years ago. Previously, she ran her own business, worked in book publishing, sang in a semi-professional ensemble, and volunteered in Bay Area schools. She loves to sing and drum, and is a member of Sistah Boom. Jen Bellenger, Change & Engagement Lead — bConnected, IST, UC Berkeley
Jen’s superpower is her tenacity for solving deeply-rooted organizational challenges. Her daily work involves driving technology change initiatives, developing strategic communications, facilitating stakeholder engagement and leading process improvement projects. She also makes a mean batch of fleur de sel caramels.
Billy Curtis, Director, Gender Equity Resource Center, UC Berkeley
Billy was hired as UC Berkeley’s first full time Director for LGBT Resources and is currently the Director of the Gender Equity Resource Center. During his tenure Billy has evolved campus resources for LGBTQ students, faculty and staff and mentored a host of LGBTQ leaders. Among his accomplishments at Berkeley are: the implementation of the annual Lavender Graduation, advocacy for Trans inclusive health benefits, facilities, athletic policies, and creating a more trans inclusive workplace at Berkeley. Billy also provides training on gender identity inclusion in the workplace to campus departments and to various agencies and businesses across the nation.
Chris Doane, Security Analyst, UCB IST, UC Berkeley
Chris is a Security Analyst with the Assessments Team, part of the Information Security & Policy department within IST. Chris’ job is to provide regulatory compliance support for payment-card merchants, research groups, and owners of restricted data systems across campus.
AJ Fox, Media Relations Manager, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive
AJ Fox joined the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive in February 2017, bringing to the institution nearly a decade of experience in arts communications. At BAMPFA, he designs and implements publicity campaigns to promote the museum’s eclectic range of art and film programming, working with editorial media to secure press coverage that advances the museum’s visibility and audience engagement goals. AJ previously worked as a communications consultant at the New York-based public relations agency Resnicow and Associates, where his clients included the Dallas Museum of Art, the Frick Collection, the Rolex Arts Initiative, and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco among many others. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Media Studies from Dartmouth College.
Debra Goldentyer, Digital Director, Berkeley Haas
Debra has been managing the Berkeley Haas website since the 20th century. In that time, she’s faced AOL; Compuserve; FrontPage; WYSIWYG; Flash; jump links; wikis; Web 2.0; HTML 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5; CSS; scrapers; W3; HTTP; and HTTPS and is eagerly looking forward to all the acronyms that come with her new CMS.
Louis Gray is an Analytics advocate at Google. A Googler since 2011, Louis has 20 years experience working in high tech marketing and PR roles in SiIicon Valley and is well known for his technology blog: louisgray.com.
Lucy Greco, Web Accessibility Evangelist, IST, UC Berkeley
Lucy has worked at Berkeley for 13 years. Her role is to help the Berkeley community to understand accessibility for people with disabilities, and be as accessible as possible.
Nan Keeton is the Deputy Museum Director for External Relations, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and leads the development, marketing, communications and visitor experience teams for the newly expanded modern and contemporary art museum. Prior to joining SFMOMA in 2013, Nan served as the Director of External Affairs for the San Francisco Symphony, and the Vice-President for Marketing and Business Development at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York. Nan has undergraduate degrees in Business and Fine Art from the University of Florida and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art.
Adam Kleinberg, CEO and Co-founder, Traction
Adam is an award-winning creative, the CEO and Founder of Traction, a creative agency that has won Silver for Ad Age Small Agency of the Year on the West Coast, was named iMedia Independent Agency of the Year and a finalist for iMedia’s Small Agency of the Year four years in a row, won Interactive Agency of the Year from BtoB Magazine twice and BMA Agency of the Year by the ANA. Adam is an expert in designing innovative brand experiences and content that align business challenges with the needs, desires and behaviors of the people they serve. Adam has a BS in Consumer Economics from Cornell University.
Keith McAleer, Director of Communications, Department of Industrial Engineering & Operations Research and the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology, UC Berkeley
As Director of Communications for IEOR and Sutardja Center, Keith’s specialties include writing, web development and graphic design. He leads teams of students who help him deliver story-focused communications and marketing campaigns. Keith’s super power includes being able to identify most tree species on the Berkeley campus.
Sandra Messick, Communications Director, Division of Equity and Inclusion, UC Berkeley
Sandra is a three-time Emmy Award-winning news producer and executive producer. After 20 years in broadcast journalism, she turned her attention to education, first at the Ventura Office of Education, next the California STEM Learning Network, and now at UC Berkeley. Sandra is the director of communications for the Division of Equity & Inclusion. She is also a Berkeley alumna.
Brian Monahan, Chief Evangelist, NewCo Festivals
Brian is co-founder of the global NewCo Festivals which showcase innovative, purpose-driven companies. He formerly led marketing for Walmart.com and Customer Strategy for Pinterest. He is a member of the American Advertising Federation Hall of Achievement.
Dimitri Moore produces video stories and coaches educators and students to produce 360 videos at Digital Promise Global. Dimitri has trained youth in media production and leadership development, and has produced music videos, short narrative films, promo and training videos, and documentaries. He has spoken at SXSWedu, Games for Change, the Mill Valley Film Festival, and the UN Global Festival of Action in Bonn, Germany. He is a resident at San Francisco Film Society’s FilmHouse Residency Program and serves as a member and co-chair of the KQED Community Advisory Panel. Dimitri has a BA in Film and Video from Columbia College Chicago.
Maria Olson, SVP at the American Heart Association
Maria has extensive experience in transforming conceptual business models into specific, sustainable growth strategies. Maria is experienced at identifying and cultivating major corporate partnerships; volunteer executive leadership engagement, board development and activation. Maria is an expert at the delicate art of communicating with Senior Execs and donors about supporting philanthropic causes in a way that makes the donor feel good about the effort; so much so that they return to give for multiple years. Maria has a BA in Advertising from Michigan State University.
Kafi Payne, Owner, Dogpatch Dance and Yoga
Educator and trainer Kafi Payne is owner of Dogpatch Dance and Yoga in San Francisco and Town Fitness in Oakland. Find joy in movement is her motto. Adulting is hard enough, taking a dance or yoga class shouldn’t be.

Rita’s colleagues compare her to a Swiss Army knife: multi-skilled, making things happen, and ready to adapt to the ever-changing environment of higher education. As a marketing and communications leader, she has built a significant set of tools through the years. She joined UC Berkeley in 2012 after spending 20 years in communications leadership roles at Arizona State University and the University of Minnesota.

With a background in art, media, and digital strategy, Stephanie joined BAMPFA in November 2017 to promote the institution’s wide-ranging programs through content marketing, digital engagement, and creative content. Stephanie has previously worked at San Francisco Art Institute, the Contemporary Jewish Museum, and Catharine Clark Gallery, and holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Art Practice and Psychology from UC Berkeley.
